Employee Spotlight continued - Bruce Carter
Bruce Carter Mission to Africa
4/27/2008
This photo is of Bruce and Joanne Carter with Charity and Eva in Yei, South Sudan during March 2008. Charity and Eva are living at Harvester's Orphanage and School. The director indicated that most orphans were a result of their parents being killed in the war.
Bruce provided the following personal report: "These are two very special young girls. They are well educated, very respectful, and thankful for God's faithfulness to them. They both speak english very well. They asked us if we had kids and we told them no. They came to us the next morning and gave us some hand made gifts and letters that they had written, as we were leaving that day. They said that since we didn't have kids and they didn't have parents that we could be their parents. They said they were going to miss us and that they wanted us to come back for longer next time. It was heart wrenching. I would have taken them in a New York minute, but at the present time there is no process for adopting kids from Sudan. While in Terrakeka, Joanne was assisting a medical team with a clinic. I was helping with constuction of a new orphanage and school compound that Harvesters is starting in Terrakeka, South Sudan. Terrakeka has a very diversified group of tribes and a high percentage of orphans. This is a place where many people went to flee the war and ended up settling after the war. When we left Terrakeka, we went to Yei for four days. We spent time with the orphans, giving them all kinds of attention and just loving them. I put a new head gasket on a small generator and got it running, worked on a motorcycle and got it running, and troubleshot and repaired a Massey Ferguson tractor. As always there was much to be done and not enough time to do it all. So hopefully we will be able to go back next winter and help out some more."
UCM is proud of their employees and their great accomplishments.

Retail sales of Usibelli coal
North Pole Coal
1/29/2008
Usibelli Coal Mine has historically had an agreement with one agent to provide retail sales of coal for residential and small commercial use. Mark Sanford of North Pole Coal recently took over operations as the agent to sell and market small quantities of coal. The resurgence of interest to purchase small-quantities of coal for residential or small commercial use for space heat has grown significantly during the past few years. North Pole Coal will continue to provide the same services typically provided by its predecessors. The operation will continue to provide coal from a site on UCM property adjacent to the West Tipple located in Healy, Alaska. They will continue to screen the coal, as well as, deliver truck-loads of coal to retail customers. Additionally, North Pole Coal will maintain a supply of coal for retail sales at their offices co-located with AIT at 2355 Richardson Highway, North Pole, Alaska. For further information contact North Pole Coal at (907) 488-8550. www.northpolecoal.net
