Coal is the most abundant fossil fuel in our nation and is found in 38 states, actively mined in 27 states, and is consumed in every state in the nation. America uses an array of energy sources to produce electricity with over half (50.4%) of the electricity consumed in the U.S. produced using coal. Other fuels include nuclear (19.3%), natural gas (19%), hydroelectric facilities (6.4%), petroleum (2.5%), and non-hydro renewable (including wind and solar) along with all other generating sources (2.3%).
